The Town of Moncks Corner, named after landowner Thomas Monk, dates back to 1728. It started as a trading post with just a few taverns and stores. In 1856 Northeastern Railroad laid tracks here and the accompanying depot became the center of a new town - Moncks Corner.
The South Carolina Secretary of State's office recorded that the municipality of the Town of Moncks Corner was chartered on December 26, 1885 and incorporated December 15, 1909.
Moncks Corner was granted the trademark "Capital of Santee Cooper Country" by the South Carolina Secretary of State on September 9, 1999 and again on October 21, 2004. The trademark is a symbol of the abundant outdoor activities such as hunting, horse riding, boating and the best freshwater fishing in the South. Moncks Corner is also home for Santee Cooper's modern Corporate office complex.
Moncks Corner is growing fast but for the 5,960 people living in Moncks Corner life is still a little sweeter, and a little calmer - Southern style!
